GERMANY: Wednesday, November 20, Erna Solberg was greeted by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel for a working lunch in Berlin.

It is seen as a highly symbolic gesture that Solberg’s first overseas trip lead her to Germany. Solberg explained that she wants to strengthen “contact with our most important partners in Europe. Germany plays a decisive role in the EU and Merkel personally plays a major role in Europe.”

Solberg and Merkel discussed economy, energy, culture, education and the situation in the EU. Germany is Norway’s biggest partner in the EU when it comes to trade and politics. Norway on the other side is a major supplier of energy to Germany.
