In a survey initiated by the association BITKOM, operators of data centers named the following factors as relevant for a good location: security of supply, data security, electricity prices, legal security, internet exchange point, and skilled human resources.
The rising electricity prices in Germany become a challenge for the operation of data centers and 45 percent of the interviewed companies see an investment outside Germany as a potential alternative.
Besides the energy cost are topics like energy efficiency, sustainability and renewable energy strong drivers and competitive factors.
Norway is not only supplier of certified green energy for data centers in Germany, Norway´s climate conditions and its electricity production from hydropower give Norway specific advantages as location for data centers.
