At the travel fair ITB 2014 the registered association “Forschungsgemeinschaft Urlaub und Reisen e. V. (FUR)” presented the first results from its annual travel analysis. Thus, for example, in the year 2013 more vacation trips took place than ever before. In concrete terms just under 55 million vacation travellers took approximately 71 million trips. The figures relate to vacations that lasted at least five days. And with a total amount of EUR 64 billion, expenditures for vacation trips also reached a new record value. In addition there were a total of 76 million short vacation trips and expenditures of EUR 19 billion in this segment.

The mood is optimistic for 2014 as well. Already at the beginning of the year at least 55 percent of the German population already has firm vacation plans. As far as travel expenditures are concerned, most of them have planned a budget similar to that of 2013. On the average this amounted to approximately EUR 906 per person. Eleven percent of those surveyed intend to spend even more.

An important topic continues to be sustainability. In 2013 sustainability was the most important decision-making criterion for one million Germans. And for another six million sustainability was one of several aspects when it came to travel planning and organization.
