Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually in June. It is organized by EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) and GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) as a special day when wind energy is celebrated and information is exchanged among players.
In association with EWEA and GWEC, Korea Wind Energy Industry Association (KWEIA), Electric Power Journal and Innovation Norway Seoul organized the Seoul event on June 22, 2018. The Global Wind Day Seoul included market information, luncheon networking and seminar including a special session on Norwegian offshore wind technology and tailored B2B meetings.
Overall, there were 253 audiences from utility companies, government agencies, financial investors, developers, operators, EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) companies, turbine suppliers, component suppliers, research institutes and universities, including five invited Norwegian companies.
NORWEP, DNV GL, Seaproof Solutions, Equinor and Fred. Olsen Oceans had an opportunity to present their companies, product/solutions and experiences to the audiences. As Team Norway collaboration, the Ambassador of Norway also attended the event with welcome remarks encouraging bilateral cooperation between Norway and Korea for offshore wind business and development.
Innovation Norway Seoul was actively involved in organizing the whole program with KWEIA, inviting relevant Norwegian companies to build a special session for Norwegian offshore wind technologies, and managing additional B2B meetings for the Norwegian participants. Total 19 meetings were conducted, exploring the new business opportunity between Korea and Norway.
After the event, Energy Economy Newspaper posted an article on the Global Wind Day Seoul. The article says that the seminar is a platform for sharing Norway’s developed technology and information on offshore wind, which is a critical area for South Korea in achieving the energy transition goals. While introducing the speakers of the seminar, the article also mentioned that the Ambassador of Norway highlighted the importance of international cooperation through partnership.
For the last two years, Innovation Norway Seoul has focused on introducing Norwegian offshore wind experiences and solutions to Korea by arranging specialized seminars: Innovation Day Seoul 2017 and Global Wind Day Seoul 2018.
For more efficient follow-up and to further develop the new offshore wind business opportunity between Norway and Korea, Innovation Norway Seoul is planning to study Korea’s wind energy industry and share the findings with Norwegian companies interested in the Korean market. The report will include the status of wind power facilities in operation, the list of construction projects for both onshore and offshore and major players in Korea. It will be released in the summer 2019.
