The first four months of 2014 saw a great increase in export of Norwegian salmon to the UK.
So far this year, the value of Norwegian salmon export to the UK has reached £73 million, compared to £38 million last year. That is a forty per cent increase in volume and almost ninety per cent in value compared to the same period in 2013.
The success in Britain adds to the promising figures for global export of Norwegian salmon. The Norwegian Seafood Council reports that more than £1 billion worth of salmon was exported to the global market in the first quarter of 2014.This is an increase of 33 per cent and £258 million compared to same period in 2013.The European market is the most important one for Norwegian salmon, making up nearly 70 per cent volume share of the export. Last year Poland and France were the biggest importers.
