Crazy days at the world’s largest mobile technology fair – MWC in Barcelona

In February 2019, Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Embassy in Spain joined forces for the 15th year in a row to arrange a Norwegian pavilion at MWC Barcelona, one of the world’s biggest technology events. The pavilion provides Norwegian companies with the opportunity to showcase their products on an international stage.

Strong Norwegian Presence at the Congress
The exhibitors at the Norwegian pavilion this year were the companies Elliptic Labs, Forkbeard, MeaWallet, StalkIT, Thin Film and TSAT. Together they represented a wide range of Norwegian technological innovations.

Innovation Norway and the Embassy organized a networking reception at the stand, which had a great turn-out. Amongst the guests were Norway’s Minister of Digitalisation Nikolai Astrup, executives from companies such as Telenor, Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei and many others. Each Norwegian exhibitor received a visit from the minister and his delegation.

“There are a lot of exciting advancements related to 5G and electronic communication happening now, and I think MWC is a nice arena for learning more about everything that is happening“, the minister wrote in the press release.

Great interest shown to the Norwegian exhibitors
For the exhibiting companies, MWC Barcelona is an important meeting place. “We have had approximately 25 good conversations with potential customers each day”, says Hansa Andersson, Vice President of Sales and Consulting at MeaWallet. The pavilion facilitated meetings by having tables at each stand, a bookable meeting room and small seating groups in the pavilion.

The mutual Norwegian pavilion also makes the Norwegian exhibitors more visible. “My impression is that the companies are easier to find when we are a part of the Norwegian pavilion”, says Maria Utseth Christoffersen, Mechatronic Engineer at Elliptic Labs. Several companies noted that people passing by were often interested in hearing about their technology.
